In the towns of Apalachicola and Carrabelle , Florida, fishing, boating and hiking is unmatched.  And it's only a short drive from your SummerCamp Beach home on St. James Island.

Outstanding Fishing

The local catch includes redfish, cobia, pompano, sheepshead, flounder, speckled trout, whiting, grouper, tarpon, Spanish mackerel, black drum, bluefish, striped bass, and many more species. Fishing Licenses are sold in the County Tax Collector’s Office and in many bait and tackle shops.  Licenses can also be obtained on-line or over the phone by dialing 1-888-347-4356.

If you like to fish, Carrabelle is just 11 miles away and offers deep water access for large boats to the Gulf of Mexico.

Paddling the Waters

The American Canoe Association has named the Apalachicola Paddling Trail System in Franklin County as one of the 12 most recommended water trails in the United States for 2006. Surrounding Areas

A historical, quaint town at the mouth of the Apalachicola River, Apalachicola has many charming homes dating back to the 1800s and was home to Dr. John Gorrie, a pioneer in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration and invented the first machine that made ice. Don't forget to also attend the annual Florida Seafood Festival where you can enjoy the fresh, local seafood.

Nearby St. Mark’s Wildlife Refuge encompasses 68,000 acres along the Gulf Coast and is one of the oldest refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System.  Bald Point State Park is also nearby and SummerCamp offers for rental boat slips at the nearby Alligator Point Yacht Basin for your convenience.
